Disney is extremely up tight (read: protective) of their characters. To get a license to sell any Disney-related product will cost you $70K right off the bat. All this is extremely good for Disney as you haven't seen Mickey, Minnie and Goofy disappear like Bugs Bunny and Porky, et al. They have an image to uphold while continually advancing their characters. It's great business.
Meanwhile, anyone remember when Disney didn't allow men to wear facial hair while working in the park.
Anal to say the least.
