Cams are a wear item. If the car was serviced regularly, oil changed regularly, it might last that long driven moderately. If you really want to find out, take the head cover off and inspect the cam. Or pull some of the caps and try to take a gaze.
If that is the original top end for that engine you'll see plenty of wear on the cam.

Hehe I've driven it hard for the last 100K and I bought it at 166K
I'm considering swapping my 87 n/a cam into my turbo S, but if cams can get miled out, then it may not happen. How would I go about inspecting a cam for wear?
