port 25 is plain old smtp, 587 is smptp auth. with the old version (which just about everyone uses but shouldn't) anyone can send email as anybody. want an email from george bush dated in 1984? its all sent by your client settings... smtpauth requires a valid user/password on the mail sending machine (what your ISP hosts, not the computer you are sitting at). Double check your settings in Outlook and if it all looks right call your ISP.
