Comcast support helps with e-mail issues??? Ya coiulda fooled me!!!
A few months ago I got a virus on a laptop that apparently started sending out a load of e-mails all over. Unbeknown to me (at the time) Comcast caught this and placed a b lock on my outgoing e-mail from Outlook Express.
The laptop was just one I used occasionally for downloads and other 'questionable' crap like that, so since it had a virus, I wiped it and threw an image back on it. Up and running in an hour or so, from discovery of the e-mail.
Anyway, to the point, when I called Comcast support to find out if they could help figure out why I could receive, but couldn't send anything out, their whiz-kid support rep politely informed me that the issue was 'definitely' the microsoft e-mail servers. (SERIOUSLY!) Her reasoning was that, since I could log onto the Comcast website and send e-mail from there, it had to be a Microsoft issue, since I was using Outlook Express as my e-mail client.
While working with this knuckle-head, I started digging around my e-mails when I discovered the one that Comcast had sent me informing me of them port-blocking my outgoing e-mail. When I informed the Comcast support rep of this e-mail, she told me that couldn't be the issue because Comcast wouldn;t do something like that. She persisted that my issue was with Microsoft, especially since I was using a Microsoft e-mail client. She even "checked with her supervisor" whom she said confirmed, 100% it was a Microsoft thing.
Anyway, long story short, I was finally able to convince them what had happened and even got them to un-block me. This support rep was a serious goon.
Hugh, if you;re still on the line with Comcast, make sure they haven't blocked you due to a virus, like they did me. (Wish I had remembered this earlier!

)
Good luck, Devildog!
