new axle 'whine'

I put the new axle in today, new bolts, torqued them to 30lbs. drove it around carefully. and above about 40MPH i hear a very slight whine coming from the rear. its possible this has always been there but i was really listening carefully today.

is this normal?
the axle is brand new, i still have my rebuilt one sitting wrapped up in case i need to swap again. I matched the greased and added a little grease to the ends of the CVs when i put them onto the wheel/tranny.

it occurs when the car is above about 40, and i apply power, you can just barely make it out. windows/sunroof need to be shut, no talking ect... is that normal?

should i give it a little time as a 'break in' before i take it out and put the old rebuilt one back in?
