You may be suffering a little self-repairitis obsessicus. Could be that you're hearing the tranny now the bad CV's gone and a new one's in. Yes, these trannies are a little noisy. Mine's sounded like an F-18 for 10 years now. I just make sure the fluid's okay and turn up the radio. Did you remove your driveaxle flange? Could have lost some fluid if you did. Maybe change the fluid and see if things change. CVs tend to click or grind when they're going out (as you know), and when they heat up you can smell the hot grease. They don't tend to whine much.
