...My best friend's mom STILL does the majority of this. Honest to God. Dinner is ready every single night when Dad (yea, I call him "dad" or "sir") gets home, the table is set, and we're closely on hand so that he can sit down and eat, not wait for us. After dinner, she cleans up, and he sits down and puts on hunting. One night while me and Jr (m budddy) were sitting around talking with his mom she told us she was teaching us what to expect from a good woman, and how a good woman should treat her man. And she NEVER talks to him until a few hours after dinner, after he has had some time to unwind. That's the LAST thing he wants to do. This was just over this past summer.
My mom used to do the same exact thing; whenever my dad got home from work, we'd sit right down at the table (of course, us kids were already washed and dressed for dinner) after dad took off his suit jacket and tie. We would eat, and only have discussion if it proved to the liking of my father. After dinner, he would retire to either his den, or his motorcycle, and mom and the kids would clean up. Lord help you if you had been misbehaving before daddy got home and he was in a bad mood (or any kinda mood at all, for that).
In all honesty, I don't think it is that bad of a system, and I think Mom was spot on with "how a woman should treat a man." I don't see anything wrong with the traditional gender roles, and it's worked for quite awhile. Call me old-fashioned....
