It has been said that Picasso could "draw like an angel", that we was very well capable of doing the more traditional drawing and painting but chose to leap from there and examine other interpretations. Jimi did the same in music. I have great respect for those that can "play" but chose to be more experimental. In fact I tend to disregard the avant guard unless I know they are capable of standards.
My favorite Jimi songs right now are Crosstown Traffic and
Hear My Train a Comin (acoustic) . The former as it is a really well put together pop song and the later as it shuts up anyone whom does not think Jimi had the blues. Knowing he could do these things makes his other work all the better.
