For a Pertronix the red wire goes to switched 12 volts.
The black wire connects to the the same wire the points connected to.
That is the black wire connects to the shielded wire that connects to pin C of the CDI.
Pin C is the input to the CDI box.
The outside shield connects to ground, either at the fan housing or at the CDI box, or both.
Pin A of the CDI box goes to the positive side of the coil.
Pin A is the output of the CDI box.
The tach wire also connects to the black Pertronix wire.
