OK now this one probably seems fairly straight forward but given the nature of the problem I know it will be very time consuming and costly of a repair.
I drive my 83 944 as it was meant to be driven (a true balanced sports car) and I do tend to give it a bit more gas that the average sedan and I guess this leads to the problem.
Last night while driving home from work I pulled out of the parking lot and went from first to second and got back on the gas only to loose all forward power (still had enough grab to get me a couple blocks if I gave little or no gas) but if I gave it any power it would slip bad with a terrible racket.
I parked it and got it towed home knowing this was bad.
Today I got under it to check the inspection holes at the clutch housing with someone running the engine and placing it in gear and the noise was in the front at the clutch to power tube. I checked the coupler at the tranny via inspection hole and confirmed that the tube was not spinning at all so the problem is at the clutch area.
I did not find any rubber shavings or bits in the inspection hole but I do know the clutch is engaging. The sound it is making is as if the splines stripped off and it is not on the splines of the input shaft.
Has anyone run into a problem as such so I know what I am up against when I finally get it apart?
