Books of holy readings are interesting, but although some claim they are divinely inspired, they are still the result of human intervention. Are they written purposely to be difficult to interpret? Was it the intention of the Creator to make them difficult to understand? Would it not have been a lot more practical to set down some simple, clear rules? The closest to that goal, in my mind, are the beatitudes. I cannot believe that the Creator as we are made to understand (as far as our puny minds can), is all loving, merciful and forgiving would stoop to giving us such contrary ideas of the way to a good life. So....why do so many sects, not only Christian, preach hellfire, revenge, justification of murder, and so on? Many things fundamentalists of the major religions avow are not even in their "holy" writings, and have their roots in the interpretation of same.
