Hard to imagine. I mean, I believe you Paul, but can't imagine folks lining up for subdermal obedience implants. Lots of old cars out there. Lots of folks out there like you and me that would NOT do this. I've got gas cans. In Washington State, we get to pump our own gas. Nobody is there to do license plate inspections.
I see no reason for this, if the purpose is to apply a "use" tax. That is accomplished with a plain ol' gas tax.
Oh, and it would be the conservatives doing this. Not the liberals. You say Oregon is liberal and many folks there are, but I noticed a fairly hellacious debate followed by the passing of some anti-gay voter measures. It's probably just another provision in the so-called "Patriot Act."

Supe, being a bit naive here on purpose are you? Of course they are saying it's to collect a road tax based on use. They claim it's because today's fuel efficient cars are robbing them of the gas tax revenue that the gas hogs once paid. The suspicion is that these units will be used to track where, when, and how fast people drive....but of course, they'd never use this technology to issue speeding tickets after the fact, would they? Would they?
Sign up for the GPS units or no license tags issued for your car...just like smog checks in Portland. Pretty simple for them to do, really.
You betcher lefty ass they would.
Anti gay voter measures??? HUH??? You mean the simple message that "marriage" is defined as being between a man and a woman? The constitutional measure passed by initiative? Far as I know, gays vote here...so do illegal aliens. The mail ballot, remember?
Would be conservatives? Gimme a break....the power structure of this state is liberal democrat...pure and simple. Speaker of the house, president of the senate, and the governor...all liberal democrats. The State supreme court is composed of liberal democrats. Conservatives are a small minority here....they are scattered in rural Oregon, but they must all dance to the political tune played by metro areas of Portland, Salem, and Eugene, liberal towns all. Super, I've lived in Oregon longer than you've been breathing...like I said, gimme a break.
