The automatic sunroof system is such a pain to keep working well sometimes. It is fragile and complex so often people revert to a manual roof setup which not only negates the possibility of further breakage, but it also saves weight. I personally would convert to manual if my roof ever broke. I'm always on the lookout for weight reduction excuses. But even if you're not crazy about weight reduction, since the roof breaks so often, it could actually be an improvement to daily driveability to convert to manual.
