Hit and Run in the Parking Lot

What is the world coming to? I am in the Dallas area this weekend for my kid's birthday party. My father and I head over to the local grocery store this morning to pick up the birthday cake and balloons. Anyhow, we come out and are loading up my Tahoe when this guy comes up to me and says that a truck hit my parked Tahoe. The driver got out, looked at the dent, got back into his truck and drove to another area of the parking lot to park. This witness wrote down his license plate number and a description of the truck on one of his business cards. I thanked him and took a look at the driver's rear quarter panel. Sure enough, there is a sizeable dent. I probably wouldn't have noticed it for a day or so, but it is fairly large.

Anyhow, my father and law and I decide to drive around the lot just to see if the truck is still there....sure enough, we find the truck. I park right next to him and we wait. I got out of my truck and took a photo of his front bumper (with my paint on it) with my cell phone. About 10 minutes later, the guy comes out of the store and starts to load up his truck. I walk over and the following conversation occurs:

"Hi there. I'm the owner of the red Chevy Tahoe that you hit about 15 minutes ago."

"What??"

"Yeah, I have an eye witness who wrote down your license plate number and description of your truck. He said you hit my driver's rear quarter panel with your bumper and then drove off."

"Where was this?"

"Right over there, across the lot. He said you hit my truck, then drove your truck over to another area of the lot."

"That's wierd, I don't remember hitting your truck."

"Well, I have a witness that says you did. I also have a picture of my paint on your front bumper in my cell phone."

**At this point he walks up to his bumper and inspects the mark on the bumper, rubbing it like it was the first time he saw it.**

"So, can I have your insurance information?"

"I really don't remember hitting your truck."

"Gee, that's wierd because the eye witness said you got out of your truck, inspected the dent in my truck and then got back into your truck to drive off. You don't remember that either?"

**Silence**

"So, you can either give me your insurance information or I can call the police. It's your choice."

"I'll get my insurance information for you."

The thing that pisses me off is that they guy hit my truck, left and then tried to lie to me about it! I don't care that you dent my truck, accidents happen. At least be a man about it and leave your information so I can get the dent fixed. The thing probably will cost less than $200 to get fixed, but this guy tried to weasel out of a measley $200...pathetic.
