U have to give it to them they are great showmen, they get the crowd reved up, their material is the Gold Standard. They give a GOOD Show for the $$$, but it seems more like relivin times past. Some of the people around me have seen them 3 or 4 times on this tour alone. One well healed geezer behind me was keepin time, and said they are amazing because they play it practaically down to the second each time..So whats new about that, the only reason I can think of seeing them more than once is to see the different play lists.
Also most of the material has been developed to its maximum potential..how many different ways can Mick do Midnight Rambler, after 37 years ist bin done.
BTW.. When I saw the Stones in 72, the ticket cost me $7.13 with tax, and I had a 3 row Loge seat off the left corner of the stage..that was the equivalent of a 3rd row seat. How lucky could I get. This show was 17 rows up on the left side of the stage, high enough where I had a great view, about a 120 feet from center stage.
As far as Mick and Keith being dead, I have argued that for years with Curtis AA in paticular. Mick and Keith were beaten to death by the Hells Angels at Altamont. If U want a divide in their music the line runs smack dab through Alatamont...Listen to Get Yer Ya Ya Out, which was recorded one week before AM and everything after...Sticky and Exiles had alot of material that was allready being developed. After that all U got was Dancin with Mr D...on Goat Heads..
I got one thing to say before I close...The juxtapostion of first person and second person narrative in the lyrics is particularily brilliant on Beggars and Let it Bleed, with Sympathy and Midnight being the most clear cut examples. It makes both of those songs totally on the edge of madness.... U might say its the duality of them that I like so much.
Only David Bowie in his Ziggy stage was farther out...only he was flown blown. The only song I really like of his is Panic in Detroit or maybe Gene Genie.
