I don't think that calling the police would have done any good since the incident occurred on private property. A co-worker's wife was t-boned in the local mall parking lot by someone cutting across the parking lot (going perpendicular to the usual lanes) and when they called the police, they said that unless there was an injury, they wouldn't respond. And they didn't. The person who was at fault denied the whole thing to their insurance company and it ended up in court...
