The argument that Rumsfeld didn't "do the right thing" isn't the correct argument.

The correct argument was, and still is, that the US government entered into a war that could not be won under any known, rational methodology; and that the troops need to be withdrawn by the safest method, with all possible speed. The specific argument is what that method is, and how fast it can be done; and nothing else.
