For LCD 1080p HDTV's , consumer reports rates the JVC LT-40FN97 and Sony Bravia KCL-40XBR2 at the top.
I am somewhat brand loyal and like the Sony KDL-40V2500, which is the lowest priced of the 1080p HDTV's. CU didn't do a test on this model, but it has the same features as the XBR2 but without the changable glass bezel.

Now if you want a plasma, not yet at 1080p native resolution, but has a better overall rating than the LCD, get Panasonic.

Best Buy has the Sony KDL-40V2500 for $2250.00. Same for Circuit City. Online at J&R, you can get it for $2K.
