I started with a '74 914 (still have it) and then next got my '81 911SC. The SC feels much more modern than the '74. It also feels a bit more reliable overall. Mostly that is because it's newer and only has 88K miles on it. The 914 is up to 160K and needs a few small things and a starter. And while the engine runs good, it could use a good freshening up.
If money was no object I wouldn't mind adding a Caymen S to the stable.
