There is your problem right there. Basically ALL of the early 6.0s were garbage, but of course how were you supposed to know that back in '04, (or '03)? The '05 and later are a lot better from what I've heard, and of course you get a great warrantee as long as you leave it stock under the hood.
If I ever had to buy another one of these diesel trucks, I would definitely lean towards a Chevy Duramax w/ the Alison transmission. They are just amazing, so quiet and fast + trouble free
