The 914 that got away

I saw an ad for an auction earlier this week. One of the items listed was a 1973 porsche. It turned out to be a 914. I went and looked at it this morning. Turned out to be a pretty nice looking 1.7 L 914. Little surface rust. Needed a new clutch. I check out the things to look for on a 914 and examined the car more. Decided I would bid on it. The crowd looked good. One of the auction people kept telling people that the car was worth $18,000!

Anyway, about 5 minutes before bidding on the 914 starts, they hand out a piece of paper saying the car is part of a divorce settlement and that both the husband and wife have their names on the title. Once the car is sold, the buyer would have to contact the wife's lawyer to get her signature.

She was up at the auction in the morning. Very unhappy. She called the police and told them that all the stuff at the auction was stolen.

I decided not to bid. The car went for $3200. Which seemed a bit pricey for a car with mileage that may be 30,000 or 130,000 or maybe even 230,000.

There was a very nice set of gasburners in the trunk and luggage compartment. I asked, but they would not separate out the rims from the car.

I spoke to the winners after. A very nice couple from Canada. I hope everything works out with the lawyers. They said it was their first porsche and were understandably excited.
