my car makes the same sort of noise, its a high pitched rattle. I hear it mostly when the car is stopped. Clutch travel has no effect on it, it will do it with the clutch out or in. but the noise definatly goes away once the engine has a load on it.
I find it does it most once its warmed up.
strangly i shot some WD40 into the AC clutch, i think some over spray got on one of the belts and the rattle stopped, im not sure if it was a coincidence or if it was the AC compressor. Regardless the noise came right back after a few drives.
If you look into this and come up with anything post back.
