Kind of overkill for transporting a 400lb. 911 engine, but what-the-hey. I have driven an'06 Duramax w/ the 6-speed Allison, and basically had the same impression. Actually I drove all 3 domestic diesel PUs back-to-back, and the Chevy was by far the fastest and quietest+ best trans. Most refined and an absolute bullet. Hard to believe that people chip those things, it is a speeding ticket waiting to happen in stock form.

The 5-speed Allison is supposedly just about as nice, I have heard that the '03 and newer models are preferable for their better injectors. I agree that the gas engines are pigs in comparison, but GM's newest gas V-8 is supposedly a powerhouse.
