Approximately 5,000 US workers are killed each year in work related accidents. 2% of the workforce suffers an OSHA reported work related injury per year.
Of the more than 50,000,000 students in the USA, only 25 were murdered in school-related incidents, if a broad definition of school related is used. Stabbed while waiting for the bus or subway counts.
More than 27,000 Armed Forces personnel died 1980 to 1993, an average of five deaths per day. Of the total, 16,330 deaths or 60 percent resulted from unintentional injury, compared with 561 deaths or 2 percent from hostile actions. More than half of the deaths were caused by a single terrorist incident. Of the other deaths, 4,901 resulted from illnesses, 3,406 from suicide, 1,464 from homicide, and 408 from other, unclassified, or unknown causes.
