Not bad for an old black powder round, huh? Puts any .44 mag to shame. Yes, it's a Ruger Blackhawk. No, it's no Cor Bon. Handloads consisting of 300 grain bullets cast at home in an LBT (Lead Bullet Technologies, aka Veral Smith out of Moyie Springs, Idaho) mold over 23 grains of W-W #296 and a CCI #350 primer.
Great little trail gun, usefull for backpacking, hunting, and general woods bumming. 4 3/4" barrel keeps it handy enough to carry; stainless steel makes it rugged enough. I've killed several large Washington mulies with it, and one Alaskan caribou. Every shot fired at game has resulted in complete penetration and not a single recovered bullet. Even lengthwise, from brisket to butthole, on a 400-some-odd pound caribou. Great little gun. Maybe a little loud indoors, though...
