Couldn't agree with you more. I think EVENTUALLY Mid Year cars
- especially, but not exclusively - the stock, numbers-matching restored ones WILL be worth increasing amounts of money. But it's gonna take a long time and wouldn't be a good reason to buy a MidYear.
There was a time when you could buy garden variety 356's for relatively low prices. At the same time an early Carrera would have been available but at considerably more money...more than an average enthusiast could have hoped to afford. The average guy bought the 356, restored it, played with it. And if he had done it "right" and held it long enough he realized a LOT of value growth.
Now I'm not claiming there's anything like a direct correlation betwen Middies and 356's value wise. Maybe they'll never be seen as valuable as Earlies or even SC's. I just think if you bought a good one or restored one to a high condition and kept it l o n g term, you'll eventually realize a profit. I am doing that but to enjoy for myself. I may or may not realize a break even much less a windfall on the investment and I don't care. It's not why I bought mine.
