What I meant was that it's marginally cheaper to purchase a mid-year as a base for modification, as opposed to some of the early cars -- condition being equal. A nice '72 T is more now costly than a similar 'base' 911 from the mid-years.

I agree, that 'budget' is perhaps an oxymoron in the context of modifying Porsches.

In regard to future values, I may be modifying my Carrera, but I'm keeping the original parts -- 'just in case.' And I do love my 'not so early' car... much more than my old 3.2s or RS America. Way more fun to toss about (quicker on the track, too).
