personal experience: I had asked for a gift certificate from my parents to MM when i was looking for camshafts. i was assured by MM that the cams would work with my current setup. after talking with several mechanics, it turned out that, no, i would not have valve to piston clearance with bigger camshafts. by this time, i had my gift certificate in hand, so...
Fall 2002, i ordered a transmission rebuild kit, dogteeth, slider, and a few nuts and bolts. sent in my 2nd gear for eval. called every 3 days for progess report. they were always waiting on parts to arrive. 4 weeks after initial order, all parts arrived at my door. i wasn't overcharged/bait and switched. i was aggravated with customer service. after dust settled, i found i could have save substantially on slider. my ignorance....
i can see how they can keep stringing uneducated customers along, because each of their modifications requires an additional modification, ie, cut your heads and put in bigger cams and, whoops, hey you need different pistons...
i'd rather get angry with vertex auto out of florida for the crap they pulled when i bought a replacement tranny... but i haven't heard any other horror stories, so i'll just keep my mouth shut.
