Yes, by the definition of displacement I would have to say you are correct. The problem would be that reducing the surface area of the ice is going to reduce the amount of energy reflect back into space and increase the rate of heating which will melt more ice (and not just the floating ice - Greenland is losing alot of its ice now).
I think the "2040" prediction is fear-mongering, but there is some disturbing data out there on the rate of melting, etc.
