Guys, I had a great time and I want to thank everybody who came out.
Unfortunately, two of the VARA guys had some mechanical issues which cut their days short. This is a shame, since seeing those no-aero screamers in turns 1, 2, 8 and 9 is really worth the price of admission to this type of event. Those guys are nuts -- and I mean that in a good way.
It was great to see so many new guys out there, and great to see the 911s doing so well against newer performance cars. It still amazes me that a stock car from 1984 can cook through turn 8 past the century mark on ordinary street tires with no drama at all.
I've got to take my hat off to Chris Tallon and Chuck Miller, both of whom are ticking off great lap times with early street cars. Chuck's been kind of a hero of mine ever since I learned about the Early S Registry and R Gruppe and saw guys taking their early street cars to both car shows and race tracks with equal enthusiasm. Chris impressed me on a couple of different R Gruppe runs, but it seems like he's basically taught himself track driving in a remarkably short time and is now turning awesome times out there. I want to ride along with both those guys next time -- I want a ridealong in Stay-Puff, too.
Patrick, Scott, Dave and Chris, it was great to go out with you guys. I hope we see you at some of the future events. The more Pelican, the better, in my opinion.
