Frankly and seriously, I think a figurehead as a leader is a good thing. I don't fault the UK system of hierarchy; they've just let it decline into a joke of sorts. The real work in national and international government is done by the Congress along with the appointed. maybe it's time we had more say in the "appointed."
Like it or not, JFK was a leader of the country, a cheerleader if you will. while his politics may or may not have been mine at the time, I rspected his leadership.
Going way back, I believe Geo Washington did pretty much the same thing and we've recognized the icon ever since. It's that which we need, an icon to look toward as a nation and let the dirty work of government proceed as usual.
