I have sleep paralysis fairly frequently...usually when I'm overtired or sleep-deprived. Usually accompanied by a terrifying feeling that there's someone in the house (who shouldn't be there). Only thing I've found I'm able to control right away is my breathing...which means I usually end up panting. Occasionally that wakes up my wife, and then she gives me a shake and I can move again. Something about the external stimulus jerks me right out of it.
