One time way back in the day during a stateside field problem(wargame) i discoverd that a 5.56mm blank fits perfectly in the firing cylinder of an M16A1 training sim. So we rigged some of em up on tripwires with blanks in them and put em on both sides of an interior doorway when we were defending a position in a blockhouse. The BLUFOR guys came charging through the doorway(usually a fatal mistake in MOUT), set off the mine, and apparently a 5.56 blank still has enough force when inserted into the inert plastic mine body that it actually still blew up!
LOL, they were covered in blue dust, and it scared the livin' snot out of them....it was great.
