Yeah, I suppose that's true.
Its a funny thing, my dad had a huge chip on his shoulder for how he/we were treated and yet he "bought" the idea that we were somehow inferior or something - we never went out to dinner until I was in high school, never went to the movies, he did everything to try to avoid attracting attention to himself.
Odd the crippling that kind of treatment does to people. Oh well, Hispanic people are held in high regard now!
