After a quick review of the posts here, I am surprised to not see the story of the purchase of one of the most famous Porsches of all time. Janis Joplin's psychedelic ragtop 356. She used to carry cash. It was lots easier than trying to use checks. In all fairness she didn't appear to be the archtype of the typical Porsche owner. Her "purse" resembled a soft suitase with a shoulder strap. I think she could have put a sleeping bag in it. Probably did.
Anyway, she went to a dealership to buy a Porsche and nobody would help her. Ultimately she became so frustrated she screamed while dumping her purse onto the floor. There were plenty of stacks of hundreds, which was a lot of money in the late sixties. They finally noticed her. The rest is history. I assume you guys have seen photographs of the car. Here is one, except that I think it is a repro.
