pat...
I am a transplant....Lived on the right coast most of my long and rather dull life. You will not get me back to snow, ice and overcrowded eastern cities without an awful lot of kicking and screaming. I like my adopted home. The weather agrees with me, the open desert and "sky islands" (mountains to the rest of the world) are a source of eternal wonder.
Yes, "back east" has its wonders too...the Adarondak Mountains, the Finger Lakes, Pennsylvania Dutch country, some parts of the seacost, and I explored much of it by car and on foot. My work required frequent trips to NYC, Philly, Boston, Atlanta, etc. and I got tired of the big cities. Heck, out here, I even avoid Phooenix since it seems to be an east coast city dropped into the desert; crowded, noisy, smoggy, and smug.
I have seen the best of both worlds and constantly wonder why I wasted so much of my life freezing and wet.
Different strokes for different folks.
