The sensor was integral to the tensioner. I believe there is a TSB out saying that the whole tensioner should be replaced, and they superseded the part to a complete unit.
$2700 is about right for the job - I believe it can be done with the engine in the car, but in any case, the camshafts have to come out and the initial timing has to be reset.
