...but I know what you mean. There was a guy who interned with me at the company that I ended up at after college. He was this loud mouth kid who was from the same college as me. He talked a good talk...but I don't think he ever did anything. I think the department he was working in caught on early and just baby sat him instead of relying on him for any work. He would have been the lone engineering intern that summer, but I knocked on the door of the interview room, sans an appointment and offered my resume.
Got the internship and later a nice job offer with the company 3 months before I graduated.

I've come to accept that the engineering talent pool is very shallow.
