Dave,
The S pistons are Mahle, the piston is not fully skirted. That is, the piston skirt is open at the sides where the pin is inserted.
The S piston is lighter than the E and T pistons which are fully skirted.
The S piston weighs about 354 grams as compared to 371/376 grams for the E and T pistons.
S is 12.48oz. E is 13.08oz. T is 13.26oz.
The S piston were made slightly smaller diameter for greater piston to cylinder clearance. 83.95, 83.96 and 83.97mm.
Where the T and E pistons were made 83.97, 83.98 and 83.99 mm.
Kolbenschmidt made only the T pistons.
This info from the factory manual.
