Or finish up what you're doing now, install the timing belt, tension with the twist method and rotate engine to TDC on the cam and check your timing on the crank. Your post did say the flywheel lock was on, no? If so, the postions of the cam and crank realative to each other won't change as long as you didn't move anything. Leave off the balance belt until after you've done the above.
