Therein is the conundrum. Many here equate enlistment in the military as an expression of patriotism for country. As if, somehow, becoming an agent for government means you hold our nation in the highest regard. Higher than keeping a family together and well turned out, higher than academic achievement that furthers mans knowledge of the universe, or even higher than being really good at whatever it is you do to earn your living.
In America, the purpose for our military has been misused for better than 150 years, and for the best part of the 20th century. That sole purpose was to be to defend America against attacks from without, and nothing else.
When authorizing the US government to engage in worldwide militarism, you arrive at where we are today. A US government that treats Americans as so many cattle to be watched night and day, a government that defines its' own limits, limits that change literally by the hour, a government that does what it wants, where it wants, and to whom it wants any time, any place, including right here in America.
