But there are some issues. For example a keyboard without keys will make touch dialing difficult and typing an exercise in patience. A touch screen without a stylist will make for lots of smudges and fingerprints on the screen. No 3G means you better be near a hotspot or wait forever for all that cool media to download. Email access via POP3 or IMAP is a turn-off for me since I have been using push technology for 2 years now.

I don't think the touch dialing on a device like this is an issue.
If you carry a smart phone you already know the buttons on a full keyboard are too small to make touch dialing effective.
Screen smudging is somehing to consider. Agree it may be an issue, we'll have to wait and see.
3G will probably be in V2 of the phone. Fact is there are no significant 3G networks in place, Cingular are working on it but they won't have full nationwide rollout till very late 07 more likely some time in 08. Simply not enough of an istalled base for it to be a viable feature. If 3G is there from day one I think you'd need to look at sacrificing either wifi or EDGE which would definately be shooting yourself in the foot.
Blackberry is licensing it's technology these days. I use BB connect on my Symbian OS Nokia E62. Cingular has a deal with RIM for it and as the iPhone will be a Cingular release I'm williing to bet there are negotiations happening that will bring BB connect to the iPhone.
Cingular would be foolish to not pursue this opportunity, it's an additional service that they can and will charge for. As few as 10k units at the minimum $39.99 per month is just south of 5M yearly revenue.
