I am no orthopedic surgeon of course, but a small fresh fracture with no mis alignment can be overlooked on a conventional X-ray the first days. When the bone healing process gets going it will show up more clearly. On the other hand (no pun intended), most fractures in the hand does not require surgical procedures.
All things considered, if you are scheduled back for a follow up X-ray in a week there is no harm done even if a fracture turns up that need surgery. Plenty of time.
