Black Beauty did get to mingle with a lot of other early 911s. The white one belongs to Pelican regular MMARSH, who has an awesome track-prepared 73 with a 3.0 that I got to ride along in. Very nimble and very quick. Here's a better picture of it:
The lid is hooked up to a switch near the hand brake. It does not function automatically, although I suppose it would be technically possible to tie that into the 3.6's brain -- just too much of a challenge for this guy. I'll just have to remember to deploy it when I'm exceeding 100 mph.
The decklid fit perfectly. I'm only irritated by the paint match, which is not dead on. Black Beauty is actually a deep charcoal color, not an outright black. But my painter got the decklid a shade darker. We'll have to see what can be done to fix it, down the line.
Here's a picture of the car at the end of the day. Running the same layout as my first trip to Streets of Willow, my best lap times were fully 11 seconds faster than my best times there with the 2.2 liter engine.
There were about nine pre-74 cars at this event. Here's a great looking green 72 that was parked near mine:
