Depends on what bones are involved. Bones in the hand in general do not require much in the way of setting unless they are very severely displaced which would show up on xray.

It sounds like you either have no fracture or a possible a non-displaced fracture (hairline). Either way a short course of immobilization is the correct course.

Broken fingers we often just buddy tape to the finger next to them. They heal up just fine...and pretty quickly too.
