Tim, how did the violin end up sounding? I know it's only your first crack at it. Do you play, or was it just something to try? If so, what did you think of the tone? If not, has anyone offerred an opinion on it? (I'm a violinist, which is why I'm curious)

I had a local builder/luthier (he gets around $5000 for violins he builds for orchestra types to give you an idea of his expertise level) look at it and he was very impressed with the workmanship and did not believe me at first when I said it was my first. He played it a little and said in his opinion it was equal to $1200-$1500 european shop built violins. When he played it, I had cheapo strings/tailpiece/pegs on it which have since been upgraded to some fancier boxwood components.
I do not play but my daughters both took lessons and played a bit for a couple of years. Unfortunately they lost interest and rarely get them out anymore (I purchased a few other "basket cases" and "repaired/restored" them). My youngest daughter preferred mine while my oldest daughter preferred an old German made Stainer copy I repaired.
Beautiful job on the sailboat Jeremy!
