Yes, clearly the story was written completely tongue in cheek. It was so sureal seeing a 910 driving around on public roads that it became hard to be too serious about it. Much like last years NASCAR Panamera, this was just an April Fools gag.
Honestly though, that is a very special car. It was a factory test car and a LeMans class winner and is still used quite hard. It has its share of scrapes and bumps from the last several years running the vintage circuits. We wanted to have fun with the idea, but still give the car the respect it is due. It was a privilage just being able to spend so much time looking at all of the little details. Those plasticars of the 60s seem so fragile. There was very little there to protect the driver in case of an accident. Hardly any serious structure at all. The science of race-car building has dramatically changed in the past 40 years!
Im just thankful that I have been offered the opportunity to do this kind of stuff as a side gig. Ive met some great people and get to play with some VERY cool cars!
