The Hoover Admin did nothing to help alleviate the Depression. Things became stagnant, some action was clearly needed to help boost the moral of the American people. There was a moment there that a Communist Revolution was immient if nothing was done to allevaite the Depression. FDRs election and subsequent actions adverted such a revolution.
Under the New Deal Social Security monies were placed in a seperate account to be used to act as a safety net for retirees. LBJ tapped into the Savings Account and started to use those funds as if they were in the General Fund, placing IOUs in the Social Security Account. So that at some later date the American Taxpayer would have to repay the Social Security Fund to help pay the retirees. Get the difference. LBJ was borrowing against futher generations of American workers.
This has been going on for so long that the younger guys don't even know that..they think thats the way its always been.
