This is not directed at Bob, but just for the folks following along at home...don't over do it either when you sell a car. List the major stuff you've done to the car and not every little nut and bolt that has been replaced. I think knowledgeable buyers don't care about when the hood shocks were replaced or when a person replaces the cigarette lighter. They just want to know about the really major stuff (expensive stuff) like replaced clutches, charged A/C, top end rebuilds, major brake work, new Bilstein shocks, etc. etc.
Reading some of these ads where people list line item after line item on every little thing they did to their car during the last 10 years is really a turn off (to me anyway). When I was looking last year, I would sometimes just skip those ads initially and move on so that I wouldn't waste time. As a knowledgeable buyer, I know I'm going to have to spend $500 to $1500 on the car for hood shocks and all the little things that add up when it hits my driveway to get it up to my standards.
Also, too much detail on what all has been fixed may turn off the 'unwashed' as well and may make them think these cars are money pits. Well, they are money pits, but you don't want the potential buyer to find that out until their check has cleared your bank account...
As bostn33 says, it's all in the marketing.
