One of the reasons I was seeking out and ultimately bought this car is for the reasons you mentioned.
I feel that this represents the peak of the old school 911 design. No doubt the latest 997 is a great car and if I could afford it I would love to buy a GT3. But they are missing that solidity of design and build found in the older cars.
No doubt that the 964 and 993 still carry on with much of the SC/Carrera DNA but they are much more modern in their electronics and the suspension with the lost of the torsion bars, they lose some of that charm. Plus...were are the Fuch's?
This being my first Porsche after so many years of longing after them is like a dream come true. I feel that for me the Porsche experience is going to be confined to the air-cooled series rather than the later cars. I have my M3 and GTI/DSG to give me a more current driving experience. The Porsche is going to be savored as a fine wine.
By the way...I checked for that rocker switch again under the speedo without any luck. No switch to be found. Surely Porsche did not forget to install it?
